A young woman, institutionalized by her abusive stepfather, retreats into a vivid fantasy world where she envisions a plan to escape. Gathering a group of fellow inmates, she embarks on a quest to collect five mystical items, blurring the lines between reality and imagination.

Zack Snyder’s 2011 action fantasy Sucker Punch is built around an unusually hands-on soundtrack, where the cast members perform several of the key tracks themselves. Produced by Marius De Vries and composer Tyler Bates, the music leans heavily into reinvented 80s and 90s classics. Lead actress Emily Browning opens the film with her moody, acoustic renditions of Eurythmics' 'Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)' and The Smiths' 'Asleep.'

Each fantasy sequence Babydoll (Emily Browning) escapes into is paired with a reworked alternative anthem. The soundtrack includes Björk's heavy 'Army of Me (Sucker Punch Remix)' during the samurai fight, Emilíana Torrini's hypnotic cover of Jefferson Airplane's 'White Rabbit,' and Skunk Anansie’s explosive version of The Stooges' 'Search and Destroy' during the dragon siege.
