Peggy Lee
eggy Lee, born Norma Deloris Egstrom (1920–2002), was a pioneering American jazz and popular music singer, songwriter, and actress whose career spanned seven decades. After an abusive childhood in North Dakota, she escaped through music, gaining national fame in the early 1940s as the lead vocalist for the Benny Goodman Orchestra with hits like "Why Don't You Do Right?". Renowned for her minimalist, sultry vocal style, often described as "softly, with feeling", she became a prolific songwriter, co-writing over 270 tracks including the score for Disney’s Lady and the Tramp (1955). Beyond her musical legacy with signature songs like "Fever" and the Grammy-winning "Is That All There Is?", Lee earned an Academy Award nomination for her role in Pete Kelly's Blues (1955) and became a champion for artists' rights after winning a landmark lawsuit against Disney for video royalties.
