Black Sabbath
Formed in Birmingham, England, in 1968 by Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward, Black Sabbath is widely credited as the pioneer of heavy metal music. Emerging from a working-class, industrial background, they pivoted from blues-rock to a darker sound defined by Iommi’s downtuned, heavy riffs and occult-themed lyrics. Following their iconic self-titled debut in 1970 and the landmark album Paranoid, the band overcame various lineup changes and internal struggles over several decades, with Iommi serving as the only constant member. Known for hits like "Iron Man" and "War Pigs," the original lineup reunited for a final album and tour before disbanding in 2017.
